Job Description
This position is responsible for operating articulated dump trucks and off-road haul trucks on large-scale ash basin closure projects, supporting heavy production earthmoving, excavation, and material handling activities. The role focuses on safely transporting coal ash, soil, rock, and other materials within an active construction environment while consistently meeting production targets and adhering to strict safety and environmental standards.
Responsibilities
- Excavate, load, haul, and dump coal ash, soil, rock, aggregate, and other environmental materials in a safe and efficient manner.
- Operate articulated dump trucks and off-road haul trucks to transport materials throughout the project site while meeting production goals.
- Work closely with excavator operators to coordinate loading operations, ensuring smooth and continuous material flow.
- Follow established loading and dumping procedures to prevent spills, equipment damage, and unsafe conditions.
- Maintain situational awareness and operate safely in active construction environments with multiple pieces of heavy equipment and excavation crews.
- Use radio communication to coordinate movements with other operators and site personnel, maintaining safe distances and clear haul routes.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance checks to ensure trucks remain in safe working condition.
- Navigate uneven terrain, haul roads, and challenging site conditions while maintaining control of the vehicle and protecting personnel and equipment.
- Adhere to construction site safety protocols, environmental compliance requirements, and quality standards at all times.
- Support high-production earthworks and ash basin closure activities by maintaining consistent haul cycles and minimizing downtime.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience operating articulated dump trucks and off-road haul trucks in heavy production environments.
- Strong experience in earthworks, earthmoving, and material transportation on construction or industrial sites.
- Demonstrated ability to handle and transport coal ash and other environmental materials safely and responsibly.
- Thorough understanding of loading and dumping procedures for haul trucks in high-volume operations.
- Experience working in production-driven work environments such as environmental remediation, heavy civil construction, mining, quarry, landfill, dredging, or ash pond closure projects.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment, excavation crews, and active haul routes.
- Competence in construction site safety practices and adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
- Skill in performing equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance on haul trucks.
- Capability to operate safely on uneven terrain and haul roads, maintaining vehicle stability and control.
- Effective use of radio communication to coordinate with other operators and site personnel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Environmental remediation experience, particularly on ash pond closures or similar large-scale earthmoving projects.
- Experience in heavy civil construction, mining operations, quarry work, landfill operations, or dredging projects.
- Familiarity with high-production excavation and material handling activities at industrial or power plant sites.
- Comfort working in fast-paced, production-driven environments while maintaining safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse site teams, including equipment operators and construction crews.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to following established operational and safety procedures.

Work Environment

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
