We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a team in California in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting specialist who can oversee core financial activities, maintain accurate records, and support timely reporting across the organization. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple accounting functions in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the monthly close process by preparing schedules, reviewing balances, and ensuring financial records are completed accurately and on time.
• Maintain the general ledger by recording complex transactions, reviewing account activity, and resolving discrepancies as they arise.
• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
• Perform detailed reconciliations for bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, identifying variances and following through to resolution.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities by monitoring transactions, researching issues, and helping maintain accurate subledger reporting.
• Prepare sales tax filings and assist with related reporting requirements to ensure timely and accurate submission.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning by analyzing historical trends and current financial data.
• Track fixed assets, calculate depreciation, and maintain accurate records for capital expenditures and asset activity.
• Apply construction accounting knowledge to monitor project costs, analyze construction-related expenses, and support cost reporting for ongoing work.• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including work in a senior-level accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures, general ledger accounting, and journal entry preparation.
• Experience completing bank reconciliations and account reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and sales tax reporting.
• Ability to support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis using sound financial judgment.
• Familiarity with fixed asset accounting, including depreciation tracking and reporting.
• Experience in construction accounting and construction cost analysis is strongly preferred.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
