Job Title: Screw Machine Operator

The Screw Machine Operator sets up, runs, and troubleshoots ACME 6/8 spindle screw machines and other automatic or CNC equipment to produce precise metal parts for motion control products. In this role, you shape metal components according to detailed blueprints, follow work instructions, and perform quality checks using measuring tools such as calipers and gauges to ensure all parts meet strict dimensional and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up ACME 6/8 spindle screw machines with the correct tools, cams, gears, and bar stock according to job specifications and blueprints.
  • Run production on automatic or CNC screw machines to manufacture precise metal parts for motion control and related products.
  • Load raw metal bar stock into machines and operate equipment safely, following all work instructions and safety procedures.
  • Monitor machine performance during production runs and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect and measure finished parts using gauges, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify they meet strict dimensional and quality requirements.
  • Identify and resolve minor machine jams and issues, including worn tools, to minimize downtime and maintain continuous production.
  • Work independently in a production cell, maintaining pace and productivity throughout the shift.
  • Handle and work with small parts on a daily basis with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Follow prints, blueprints, and written work instructions to set up machines and complete production jobs correctly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with manufacturing and safety standards.

Essential Skills

  • Previous screw machine operation experience in an industrial manufacturing role (1+ years preferred).
  • Manufacturing or industrial work experience (2+ years preferred).
  • Ability to set up, run, and perform basic troubleshooting on ACME 6/8 spindle screw machines or similar automatic/CNC machinery.
  • Ability to work independently and stay on pace while working alone in a production cell.
  • Comfort and dexterity working with small parts on a daily basis.
  • Ability to read and follow prints, blueprints, and detailed work instructions.
  • Experience with general machine operation and production work, including press operation and machine operations.
  • Basic quality inspection skills, including using gauges, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify part dimensions.
  • Ability to safely load raw metal and operate machinery in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background as a Screw Machine Operator or similar machine operator role.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments producing automotive or agriculture parts.
  • Exposure to plastic injection or injection molding processes is beneficial.
  • General labor, general production, and quality inspection experience.
  • Ability to solve minor machine jams and address issues related to worn tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency in following established processes and instructions.

Work Environment

This role is based in a medium-sized manufacturing facility producing parts for the automotive and agriculture industries, with approximately 50–60 employees on site. The plant is clean and undergoing regular upgrades to improve the workspace and equipment. There are openings on both 1st and 2nd shifts, with 2nd shift needs being more urgent. Typical shift hours include 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. for 1st shift, and 2:45 p.m.–11:30 p.m. for 2nd shift. Overtime for temporary workers is not common initially, as training is prioritized, but when needed it may occur as two hours before shift, two hours after shift, or on Saturdays. Attendance expectations are strict, and reliable presence is essential. Dress attire includes jeans, shirt, closed-toe shoes, and required eye and ear protection. Employees may wear one earbud while working as long as they can hear coworkers and machine sounds for safety.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Haven, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
