Job Description

Step into a vital educational support role dedicated to helping students thrive, both academically and personally. This full-time contract position, totaling 37.5 hours each week, focuses on empowering elementary students through effective counseling, collaboration, and advocacy.

Key Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Completion of a state-approved Counselor Preparation Program
  • Eligibility for relevant licensure or endorsements required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families
  • Commitment to professional growth with up-to-date skills and credentials

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Advise and support students on academic, career, and social/emotional matters
  • Assess needs at individual, group, and program levels; plan responsive interventions
  • Use various assessments to set and monitor student learning goals and support progress
  • Provide feedback and maintain detailed student records
  • Deliver mediation services, working with administration to resolve student conflicts
  • Coordinate transitions for students moving from middle to high school
  • Maintain confidentiality for student and staff information
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and administrators on educational and personal issues
  • Facilitate referrals to specialized services as needed
  • Foster collaborative relationships with staff, families, and community resources
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards in every interaction
  • Create a positive, engaging learning environment that promotes student motivation and social growth
  • Participate in curriculum development, faculty committees, and student activities
  • Report concerns about student welfare to appropriate administration
  • Maintain required certifications and professional knowledge
