“This position shall have the responsibility to report problems with the food safety management system to identified person(s). This position has the responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions. Acquire and maintain knowledge of HACCP/OPRP/PRP (GMP) policies and requirements to complete all monitoring and/or verifications tasks as outlined by the Food Safety Management”

Shift Requirements

  • 12-hour shifts, either:
    • 4:00 AM - 4:00 PM, or
    • 4:00 PM - 4:00 AM
  • 6 DAYS A WEEK
  • Candidates must be flexible and available to work either shift as needed.
  • Schedule requires 6 days per week.

Job Description

This role is responsible for operating a dozer at all levels including the top of the stack to reclaim and supply refinery with clean salt, operate the conveyor system and complete daily tonnage reports for a salt manufacturing facility.

Additionally, drive haul trucks from solar to the dry bulk loading operation to fill the haul truck bed with salt and drive it to the dump location.


Education, Experience, Skills

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to learn computer data entry and lab testing
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions (written and spoken)
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
  • Demonstrated ability/desire to produce quality work, results and products
  • Willing to be cross-trained and to assist in other departments as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in teams
  • Demonstrated positive attitude toward/interest in safety and safe work rules
  • Ability to daily frequently and safely enter and exit the dozer operator cab
  • Ability to sit continuously up to 2 hrs at a time in operator cab seat and safely operate dozer outside in the weather elements year round, pushing raw salt around on a salt stack up to 80’ high to move it toward the salt box.
  • Able to maintain required Physical, health factors and cognitive functional requirements needed to perform the work safely with no recognized risks to the equipment being operated, the operator of the heavy equipment, pedestrians, property and other vehicles

Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for real-time processing and feeding of clean salt to the refinery and un-treated truck bulk loading silos.
  • Must be prepared, ready, and available to process and deliver salt inventory on-demand.
  • Responsible for operating heavy mobile equipment – Dozer, Loader, 5-yard dump truck, haul truck.
  • Dozer operator is responsible for breaking up lumps of salt with the dozer when on the stack and pushing clean granulated salt, with no lumps to the salt box.
  • Responsible for performing inspections on the dozer and all other mobile equipment/trucks. Ensuring all checklist components prior to and after operating are within operation standards. Performing inspections on the conveyor, salt box, wings, and hopper to ensure operations and maintain food quality by preventing and identifying food contamination hazards.
  • Operate Dozer on all levels of a stack of salt.
  • Prepare the salt stack to set the salt box.
  • Relocate and assemble salt box, conveyors, hoppers, electrical cords, and support components.
  • Make salt cuts to control the feeding of salt to the stack.
  • Operate and monitor conveyor belts, salt box, wings, vibrator, wings, hoppers, diverter chute boxes.
  • Monitor scale equipment, magnets, and all electrical cords.
  • Monitor conveyor and components for potential spills.
  • Correct spill issues identified. (E.g. water down or shovel salt to clear spillage).
  • Complete daily reports of salt movement
  • Must use Register Charts and complete Crude Salt Log daily.
  • Take daily 40-gram samples of salt daily, test salt by adding chemicals and determining test results. Log sample test findings.
  • Keep daily salt samples and send them to the lab within 14-days.


Physiological and Sensory Demands Summary

  • Must have far-field vision for operating dozer on the stack and other mobile equipment/vehicles. Must have near-field vision for reading and filling out forms.
  • Must have depth perception and peripheral vision for operating dozer and other mobile equipment/vehicles. Color vision is required to discriminate findings after chemical testing.
  • Must be able to accommodate vision when moving from inside lighting to sunlight/moonlight.
  • Must be able to smell and discriminate mechanical and electrical failure odors. Must be able to hear horns, alarms, warning sirens, radio, and mechanical equipment failure sounds.
  • Must wear all PPE required for the job position and tasks being performed.



Physical and Environmental Demands

  • May be seated for multiple 2-hour periods throughout the shift when operating the reclaim dozer.
  • May be walking and standing for multiple 2-hour periods throughout the day when operating and monitoring conveyors and product flow.
  • Required to climb stairs and vertical ladders to access certain locations along the conveyor lines.
  • Shovels salt from the ground and lifts it from 0” – 55” and thrust the salt forward at the conveyor belt to catch friction with the roller, with heavy raid this can be done 3-8x/hr. (shovel thrusts) up to 4x/day.
  • Clearing clumped salt: To clear clumped salt on conveyor after the salt box the individual has to step on metal flange of the salt box at 6” and grab and support balance at 62” the individual then raises a shovel above shoulder horizontally and thrust forward at the clump with one arm repetitively until the clumped salt breaks up this may be performed continuously up to 10/15 minutes. When clearing clumped salt in the hopper after the portable conveyor, the individual must step on to the wooden rail support frame at 24”high, use one hand to grab the hopper at 70” then step up with the ground leg to the 24” wooden rail support, a shovel is held with one arm horizontally above dominant shoulder and thrust forward clearing 70” the direction of thrust alternates from horizontal to vertical thrusts depending on size and location of the salt clump.
  • Shoveling salt spills: A shovel is used to clear salt that has accumulated on or near the conveyor belt to clear the immediate obstruction. Thus, the shovel is generally used from the ground level and up to 4’ at common spill locations. If location of spill is not accessible by shovel due to potential damage of conveyor or equipment a water hose/ water truck (with large amounts) is used to wash down the salt from the conveyor and components. Once salt is cleared from obstructing operations, the individual may need to spray water to melt down salt for up to 1 hour while continuously holding and gripping a 3/4” -2.5” water hose until salt is melted and dissipated.
  • Lifting wood ties: When disassembling/assembling the portable conveyor ~20, 4” x 12” x 5’ wood ties are used as chock support to brace the portable conveyor legs on the rail track. The wood (47 lb. each) is lifted from 0” into the loader bucket positioned at waist height or about 30” and 4’ -6’ away. The blocks are either transported to the new location for conveyor assembly and placed down on tracks at 0” or placed down a storing location on ground at 0” to be stored until next conveyor assembly.
  • Lifting chains: When securing hopper on rail track 2-4, 20 lb. chains are either lifted to/from 33” at the hopper rail wheel to/from a truck or gator bed at 32”-35”.
  • Lifting horses: Wooden Horses weighing 62.2 lb. are lifted either to/from the ground/ loader bucket when assembling/disassembling the power cables to the portable conveyor. They are either transported to the new assembly location or a storage area and placed on ground.
  • Winding electrical cords: When disassembling/reassembling the portable conveyors, the individual disconnects the electrical cables from the power source and pulls and winds the cord to secure it on the conveyor hooks/storing location.
