Job Description
Embark on a rewarding opportunity supporting students through specialized instruction and adaptive curriculum strategies. This contract-to-hire assignment is ideal for experienced Special Education professionals dedicated to making a difference for learners with diverse needs. You’ll split your time between elementary and high school grades, acting as the teacher of record in adaptive (functional skills) classrooms.
You’ll work closely with an established unlicensed teacher, who has over a year’s experience in this setting. This collaborative environment ensures instructional continuity and compliance with educational standards, allowing you to focus on driving meaningful learning outcomes. With a manageable caseload of 15 students—6 elementary and 9 high school learners—you’ll be able to provide personalized attention and support across grade levels.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid certification in Exceptional Children: Adapted Curriculum (K-12) strongly preferred
- Other EC certifications also considered (indicate your credentials when applying)
- Prior experience in an adaptive or functional skills special education classroom
- Strong knowledge of compliance and documentation requirements for individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to lead and mentor classroom support staff
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as teacher of record for both elementary and high school adaptive skills classrooms
- Deliver tailored, adaptive curriculum meeting students’ academic and functional needs
- Collaborate with support staff to facilitate instruction and ensure compliance
- Maintain IEP documentation, progress tracking, and effective communication with families and staff
- Split weekly hours (32–36) between both school levels, providing consistency for students
