ENTRY LEVEL ACCOUNTANT

Job Description

The Accountant will prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, reconcile general ledger accounts, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting within a corporate environment. This role supports budgeting, month-end close, and compliance activities, while partnering closely with cross-functional teams to maintain strong financial controls and clear visibility into the company’s financial position.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, examine, and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to accurately reflect the company’s financial position.
  • Determine and explain causes for monthly variances in financial statements, providing clear analysis and insight to leadership.
  • Analyze general ledger accounts and reconcile inconsistencies on a monthly and quarterly basis to ensure accurate account balances.
  • Research and interpret financial data to assist in developing budget assumptions, reports, and project-related financial analyses.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments to ensure financial compliance and adherence to established policies and procedures in a corporate setting.
  • Support SOX compliance activities by maintaining appropriate documentation, controls, and reporting standards.
  • Assist with special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned, contributing analytical support and accounting expertise.
  • Understand and navigate expense and revenue issues, proactively identifying discrepancies and driving timely resolutions.
  • Assist with all month-end analyses and reporting, preparing information for review by the Controller prior to financial sign-off.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in interactions with internal stakeholders, including frequent visits from leadership, and represent the accounting function with accuracy and integrity.

Essential Skills

  • 1–4 years of professional accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Strong knowledge of core accounting principles and practices.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, including account analysis and reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in preparing and reviewing financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and related reports.
  • Experience with month-end close processes, including journal entries and variance analysis.
  • Ability to perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to research and interpret financial data to support budgeting and forecasting.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial documentation and reporting.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain financial information clearly.
  • Ability to work within established compliance frameworks, including support for SOX-related processes.

  • Experience working in a corporate or large enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with revenue and expense analysis and issue resolution.
  • Comfort with supporting budget development and project-based financial reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, particularly around month-end close.
  • Demonstrated professionalism in attitude, communication, and presentation.
  • Adaptability to work within a diverse team with varying tenures and backgrounds.
  • Interest in long-term career growth within an accounting and finance organization.

Work Environment

This is a full-time role based in a corporate headquarters environment, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The accounting team consists of approximately ten professionals with a wide range of tenures, from several months to many years, and represents diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds in a friendly, collaborative setting. Month-end close is a critical period, and time off is not permitted from the 22nd through the end of each month to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The role is located in a headquarters facility where vice presidents and executives visit frequently, so a professional attitude and attire are expected.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mediacom Park, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
