Job Description
Step into a dynamic school setting and make a meaningful difference in the life of a 1st grade student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This part-time, contract opportunity is ideal for a compassionate and skilled RN who is passionate about providing holistic care and fostering communication development in a school environment. The role runs from ASAP through late May 2027, with split shifts Monday through Wednesday from early morning until late afternoon.
Key Qualifications:
- Current RN license with active standing
- Prior experience as an RN in a school, pediatric, or similar healthcare setting
- Demonstrated expertise with tracheostomy care and administering oxygen as needed
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to actively learn and utilize sign language on the job
- Ability to collaborate closely with educators, families, and transportation staff
- Comfortable accompanying the student on school transportation (bus rides to and from the school each day)
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- CPR/BLS certification required
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized medical care and supervision to a young student with complex health needs throughout the school day and during bus transport
- Monitor trach and oxygen requirements, intervening as needed to ensure safety and well-being
- Support communication needs by utilizing sign language and encouraging verbal skills as part of the student’s IEP goals
- Maintain accurate nursing records and communicate regularly with school staff and family members
- Uphold all relevant school and nursing policies, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
