Field Service Engineer
Job Description
The Field Service Engineer supports semiconductor facilities by ensuring critical water and waste-processing systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role combines hands-on operations, maintenance, commissioning, and data reporting, with a strong focus on safety, technical accuracy, and customer support. It is ideal for technicians who enjoy field service work but prefer minimal travel, and who want to grow with a rapidly expanding presence in the semiconductor industry.
Responsibilities- Conduct routine facility rounds to verify equipment and systems are operating correctly.
- Load and unload chemicals safely and in accordance with established procedures.
- Stage, change out, and maintain filtration systems to support process performance.
- Monitor system parameters and performance indicators and take action when readings deviate from targets.
- Respond to system alarms, troubleshoot issues, and make necessary adjustments to support waste-processing operations.
- Perform weekly and monthly safety inspections and promptly address identified issues.
- Collect water samples from multiple facility locations and test and analyze water quality.
- Install and replace consumable parts as scheduled or as needed to maintain system reliability.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and related documentation.
- Keep work areas clean and organized, including hosing down surfaces and removing trash or leak pads.
- Enter operational data into computer systems to generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Record readings from facility rounds and compile them into spreadsheets for tracking and analysis.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment and sub-assemblies following established guidelines.
- Review blueprints, plans, and specifications to prepare for system startup, commissioning, or service activities.
- Build strong, solution-oriented relationships with customers, sales representatives, and suppliers through professional on-site and remote communication.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, production, field sales, and leadership teams to resolve technical issues.
- Complete service reports, repair records, warranty documentation, and maintenance logs within required timeframes.
- Properly document, label, process, and return defective parts from service or commissioning work.
- Interface with customers as needed to support operations, service activities, and issue resolution.
- Organize and maintain parts storage areas and warehouse inventory to ensure availability of critical components.
- Continuously seek improvements in efficiency, cost, and workflow and share recommendations with the team.
- Provide feedback to leadership regarding operational conditions, business trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support special projects and other duties assigned by supervisors.
- Uphold high ethical standards and follow all company policies and procedures.
- Report irregular issues or problems to supervisors promptly and clearly.
- Maintain strong communication with supervisors, office staff, and external contacts to coordinate work activities.
- Be available to cover shifts with appropriate notice to support operational continuity.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
- Prior experience performing field service installations, commissioning, and electrical wiring.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Experience with HVAC installation or related mechanical systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues.
- Ability to safely handle, load, and unload chemicals following established procedures.
- Competence in collecting and testing water samples and analyzing water quality results.
- Proficiency in entering operational data into computer systems and generating reports.
- Ability to maintain accurate logs, spreadsheets, and documentation for maintenance and operations.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, sales representatives, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Commitment to safety practices and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of ultrapure water systems or water technology is a plus.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification preferred.
- Experience working in or around semiconductor facilities is beneficial.
- Ability to build solution-oriented relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills for managing parts storage areas and warehouse inventory.
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on efficiency, cost savings, and workflow enhancements.
This role primarily supports semiconductor facilities in the Boise area, with approximately 11% travel to semiconductor sites. Work is mainly performed on-site in an industrial environment around water treatment, waste-processing, and related mechanical and electrical systems. The position involves regular facility rounds, equipment inspections, chemical handling, and interaction with operations and engineering teams. The environment emphasizes strict safety standards, clean and organized work areas, and accurate documentation. Field Service Engineers work closely with customers and internal stakeholders, with opportunities for professional growth and upward mobility as part of a growing presence in the semiconductor space.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boise, ID.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
