We are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist (OT) to join a supportive school-based team in Suffolk, Virginia.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pediatric OT or a new graduate looking to build a career in a school setting while making a meaningful difference in students' lives.
What You'll Do
Provide occupational therapy services to students in a school setting
Evaluate students and identify functional, developmental, and educational needs
Develop and implement individualized therapy plans
Provide direct and consultative OT services
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings
Collaborate with teachers, families, special education staff, and other related-service providers
Help students develop skills necessary for participation and independence in their educational environment
Recommend appropriate accommodations, adaptive equipment, and strategies when needed
Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program
Current Virginia Occupational Therapist license OR eligibility to obtain Virginia licensure
NBCOT certification preferred/required for standard licensure pathway
Pediatric or school-based experience preferred
New graduates and clinicians transitioning into school-based practice are encouraged to apply
Virginia OT Requirements
Virginia requires occupational therapists to obtain state licensure. Initial licensure requires completion of the academic and fieldwork requirements of an ACOTE-accredited OT program and passage of the required national examination.
OTs already licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction may qualify for Virginia licensure by endorsement if they meet Virginia's current requirements.
Virginia also participates in the Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact, providing an additional pathway for eligible OTs to practice across participating compact states.
School-Based OT
In Virginia schools, occupational therapy is provided as a related service to help students function within their educational program, including developing or restoring functional skills and improving independence.
