Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with educational terminology
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or as a Teacher of American Sign Language
- Appropriate certification or licensure to interpret in a K-12 environment (if required by state or local regulations)
- Ability to adapt interpretation skills to meet the needs of various age groups and learning levels
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
- Professionalism, reliability, and a collaborative attitude
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students, faculty, and staff
- Facilitate clear communication during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to assist in the educational process
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting assignments
- Support student participation in academic and extracurricular activities
- Adapt interpretation style to accommodate different learning environments and student needs
