Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with educational terminology
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or as a Teacher of American Sign Language
  • Appropriate certification or licensure to interpret in a K-12 environment (if required by state or local regulations)
  • Ability to adapt interpretation skills to meet the needs of various age groups and learning levels
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Professionalism, reliability, and a collaborative attitude

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students, faculty, and staff
  • Facilitate clear communication during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to assist in the educational process
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting assignments
  • Support student participation in academic and extracurricular activities
  • Adapt interpretation style to accommodate different learning environments and student needs
