Customs Entry Writer / Entry Specialist

Location: Renton, WA

Compensation: 60-70K

Position Overview
Our client is an established international freight forwarding and customs brokerage company seeking a Customs Entry Writer / Entry Specialist to join its brokerage operations team.

This position is responsible for preparing and processing U.S. Customs entries while ensuring shipments move efficiently and accurately through the import process. The ideal candidate has previous customs brokerage or import clearance experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with customers, internal operations teams, carriers, and other third parties to ensure accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and timely customs clearance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and process U.S. Customs import entries accurately and efficiently.
  • Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and other shipping documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Verify HTS classifications, country of origin, values, quantities, and other information required for customs entry filing.
  • Coordinate with customers and internal teams to obtain missing or corrected documentation and information.
  • Monitor shipments and customs entries to ensure timely clearance and delivery.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Customs and other government agencies as required to resolve entry issues and facilitate clearance.
  • Prepare and submit Importer Security Filings (ISF) and other required documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to customs entries and shipments.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding shipment status, entry requirements, documentation, and customs issues.
  • Work closely with freight forwarding and transportation teams to ensure a smooth import process from origin through final delivery.
  • Stay current on applicable U.S. Customs regulations, import requirements, and other government agency regulations affecting international shipments.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies, documentation issues, and other problems that may delay customs clearance.
  • Maintain productivity, accuracy, and quality standards while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Perform other duties related to customs brokerage and import operations as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of previous U.S. Customs brokerage or customs entry experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working for a freight forwarder, customs broker, or international logistics company preferred.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Customs entry procedures and import documentation.
  • Experience preparing or processing customs entries.
  • Knowledge of Import Security Filing (ISF) requirements.
  • Experience using CargoWise or similar freight forwarding/customs brokerage software preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines.
  • Ability to identify problems, research solutions, and work independently when necessary.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with customers and business partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team while maintaining individual accountability.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to meet applicable security and background screening requirements.
