Job Description
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, active Pharmacist license, and minimum 1+ years Director of Pharmacy experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An interim Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) / Director of Pharmacy (DOP) position is available at a 25-bed critical access hospital in rural Northern California. This contract opportunity offers a chance to lead pharmacy operations in a close-knit healthcare setting with a focus on quality patient care.
Location:
- Rural Northern California, Clearlake Oaks area
Schedule:
- Four 10-hour day shifts per week
Responsibilities:
- Oversee pharmacy staffing (approximately 90% of duties)
- Perform order verification to ensure accuracy and safety
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff
- Collaborate closely with physicians and nursing staff to optimize medication therapy
- Manage pharmacokinetic monitoring and consultation
- Handle administrative tasks related to pharmacy operations (approximately 10%)
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid California Pharmacist license
- Experience working in a hospital setting, preferably in a critical access or rural hospital environment
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a small pharmacy team effectively
- Thorough knowledge of hospital pharmacy practices, clinical services, and regulatory requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with multidisciplinary teams
This assignment is expected to last approximately 13 weeks or more, with an immediate start date preferred. It is an ideal opportunity for a licensed pharmacist with hospital experience to step into a key leadership role that balances clinical responsibilities and pharmacy management.
