The Lab Technician supports laboratory operations and innovation activities by performing analytical characterization and testing according to established procedures and quality requirements. This role focuses on preparing and organizing samples, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, and accurately recording, organizing, and reporting test data to support research, development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory testing and analytical characterization following established procedures, test methods, and quality requirements.
  • Prepare, label, handle, and organize samples to ensure accurate and reliable testing outcomes.
  • Operate, clean, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure consistent performance and data integrity.
  • Record, organize, review, and report test data accurately and consistently using appropriate documentation and data entry systems.
  • Maintain lab records, equipment logs, calibration records, and other required documentation in an organized and up-to-date manner.
  • Keep work areas, supplies, and inventory organized to support safe, efficient, and high-quality laboratory operations.
  • Communicate test results, observations, and equipment issues clearly to engineers, scientists, and supervisors.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and innovation activities.
  • Follow standard operating procedures, test methods, and safety requirements at all times.
  • Support ongoing efforts to improve laboratory processes, documentation, and equipment reliability.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma required.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures, test methods, and safety requirements.
  • Experience with sample preparation, laboratory testing, and basic analytical equipment (preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to record, organize, and review data accurately.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, and use of data entry systems.
  • Ability to maintain organized work areas, documentation, supplies, and equipment records.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineers, scientists, and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in laboratory operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in chemistry, materials science, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior laboratory experience in testing, quality, or research and development environments preferred.
  • Background or interest in chemistry and analytical testing.
  • Ability to work effectively in a smaller team environment within a research and development center.
Work Environment

This position is based in a temperature-controlled laboratory and research and development facility. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility on start and end times to accommodate a 40-hour workweek. The work involves regular use of laboratory instruments and analytical equipment in a structured, safety-focused environment, with close collaboration among a small, dedicated R&D team.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Columbia, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
