Job Description
Step into a rewarding role supporting elementary students in a specialized social communications classroom. Make a difference as an Intervention Specialist, working collaboratively with dedicated paraprofessionals to impact the lives of learners with Autism eligibility—most of whom are non-verbal or have limited speech. This contract opportunity offers a stable weekly schedule and the chance to develop strong connections in a supportive school environment.
Two roles are available:
- Immediate opening through May 28th
- Full-year position beginning this fall
- 8:00am – 4:00pm schedule
- One classroom features 6 students, all with social communication needs, and 2 paraprofessionals assisting
- A separate 6-week maternity leave coverage in September is also available
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teacher certification
- Prior experience with students on the autism spectrum preferred
- Familiarity implementing behavior intervention strategies
- Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication skills, especially working with non-verbal and minimally verbal students
- Commitment to structured routines and positive behavioral support
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Teach social, communication, and life skills in a nurturing, structured setting
- Collect and monitor data to support student growth
- Collaborate with families, therapists, and school staff to create holistic support plans
- Address behavioral challenges proactively and compassionately
- Foster a welcoming classroom community where every student can thrive
