Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Facility Maintenance Technician to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of building facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, and plumbing. The ideal candidate will be adept with a range of tools, from common hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical testing devices.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure equipment and fixtures operate smoothly and efficiently.
- Inspect and test equipment to diagnose mechanical problems and determine solutions.
- Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
- Inspect drives, motors, belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions following checklists.
- Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.
- Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
- Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
- Maintain the safe operation and maintenance of building facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, and plumbing.
- Operate and maintain specific equipment, conduct surveys and inventories, perform preventive maintenance activities, respond to customer complaints, and repair equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical documents to troubleshoot and make accurate repairs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Perform daily chemical tests on water systems and adjust chemical mixtures and feed rates as necessary.
- Install wall-hung furnishings and equipment.
- Maintain related computer databases.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in facility maintenance, specifically in HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing.
- Ability to utilize tools such as hammers, drills, wrenches, precision measuring instruments, and electrical testing devices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and schematics.
- Experience with preventive maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Mechanic 2: Minimum of 2 years of experience with HVAC equipment and facility electrical equipment.
- Mechanic 3: Minimum of 3 years of experience with commercial HVAC equipment and electrical systems.
- Plumbing experience: Minimum of 2 years for Mechanic 2 and 3 years for Mechanic 3, with commercial systems preferred.
- Understanding of electrical safety for various voltage levels.

Work Environment
Work within a dynamic college university setting, involving both indoor and outdoor tasks. Be prepared to work around research animals. The facilities include nearly 200 buildings divided into zones, each managed by a zone supervisor. The work schedule is typically from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., depending on the department.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
