Onboarding Verification Specialist
Job Description
The Onboarding Verification Specialist coordinates and completes pre-employment screenings, background checks, and employment verifications for newly hired employees. This role ensures all onboarding requirements are met accurately, on time, and in full compliance with applicable regulations, while maintaining a positive and professional candidate experience throughout the hiring process. The position is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive pre-employment screenings, including employment verification, education verification, criminal background checks, and other required clearances.
- Review and validate screening results to ensure alignment with organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Partner closely with Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, and hiring teams to facilitate a seamless onboarding and hiring process.
- Communicate directly with candidates regarding outstanding requirements, missing documentation, and updates on their onboarding status.
- Track and monitor onboarding progress to ensure all pre-employment requirements are completed within established timelines.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies identified during the verification and screening process.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation within HRIS systems and onboarding platforms.
- Protect the confidentiality and security of sensitive candidate and employee information at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service and support to candidates and internal stakeholders throughout the onboarding process.
- Assist with process improvements that enhance onboarding efficiency, compliance, and the overall candidate experience.
- Perform additional administrative and onboarding-related duties as assigned.
- At least 2 years of experience in onboarding or a closely related human resources support function.
- Proven experience with pre-employment verification and background check processes.
- Strong understanding of onboarding workflows and HR support practices.
- Ability to interpret and apply organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to pre-employment screening.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and validating documentation and screening results.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with candidates and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain data security.
- Proficiency using HRIS systems and onboarding platforms for documentation and recordkeeping.
- Customer-service mindset with a focus on providing a positive candidate experience.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience collaborating with Talent Acquisition and Human Resources teams.

This role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, based on a 35-hour work week. The position typically requires three days in the office in Peekskill and two days working remotely, offering a hybrid work arrangement. During the initial 1–3 weeks, the role may be fully in-office to support training and help the new hire get up to speed with systems, processes, and team workflows. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Peekskill, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.85/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
