Position Summary
The Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll-related activities. This individual will play a key role in the monthly close process, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and accounting process improvements. Our client is open to a Sr. Accountant who is ready for that next step, or someone with prior supervisory experience.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and other general ledger activity.
- Assist with preparation and review of monthly financial statements and management reporting.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and communicate findings to leadership.
- Monitor key financial estimates and accounting assumptions in partnership with operational leaders.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop, document, and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Evaluate business and operational changes to determine potential accounting implications.
- Partner with various departments to ensure accounting processes remain accurate and effective.
- Coordinate information and support for external audits and other financial reviews.
- Assist with applicable federal, state, and local reporting and tax compliance requirements.
Accounting Operations
- Oversee accounts payable processes, including coding, approvals, and payment activity.
- Provide oversight of accounts receivable, billing, and collections processes.
- Monitor working capital and cash flow-related activities.
- Provide oversight and review of payroll accounting and related processes.
- Ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team.
- Establish priorities and ensure accounting deadlines are consistently met.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve controls, and increase efficiency.
- Support accounting system and ERP enhancements, automation initiatives, and process improvements.
- Participate in special projects and financial analyses as requested by senior leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Previous supervisory, management, or team leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial accounting principles.
- Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience working with an ERP or integrated accounting system.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively with both accounting and non-financial professionals.
- CPA or CMA is preferred but not required.
