Metal Fabrication Surface Prep and Coatings SpecialistIs this you?
- Do you take pride in transforming raw steel into a flawless, protected finish?
- Are you comfortable switching between abrasive blasting and precise spray work?
- Do you instinctively reach for your PPE and double-check humidity and temperature before the first coat?
- Perform abrasive blasting to clean and profile metal surfaces for coating adhesion.
- Mix and apply industrial paints and protective coatings via spray guns, brushes, or rollers.
- Handle pre-coat prep: cleaning, degreasing, and masking per job specifications.
- Conduct post-application checks for consistent coverage, target thickness, and finish quality.
- Adhere to safety procedures; wear appropriate PPE at all times.
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot blasting and painting equipment; escalate issues as needed.
- Track and respond to environmental factors (temperature, humidity) to ensure proper curing and finish.
- Keep work areas organized; store materials and equipment properly.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to confirm scope and requirements.
- Communicate job progress and concerns to supervisors and collaborate with the team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years in industrial painting and/or sandblasting.
- Hands-on experience with airless and conventional spray equipment.
- Understanding of coating systems and surface preparation standards (e.g., SSPC/NACE).
- Ability to read technical drawings/specs accurately.
- Strong quality mindset and attention to detail.
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs; comfortable with physically demanding tasks in varied conditions.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., NACE, SSPC).
- Experience in fabrication or manufacturing settings.
- Forklift or overhead crane operation experience.
- Work around dust, fumes, noise, and temperature changes.
- Consistent use of PPE, including respirators, gloves, and coveralls.
- Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and tasks in confined or elevated spaces.
