WELDING & FABRICATION TECHNICIAN

Los Angeles, CA | LAX Airport
Pay Rate: $35.00-$38.50/hour
6-Month Contract | Potential Contract-to-Hire
Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week

KEEP CRITICAL AIRPORT EQUIPMENT MOVING

Our client is seeking an experienced Welding & Fabrication Technician / Industrial Maintenance Technician to support maintenance and repair operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

This is a senior-level, hands-on position combining mechanical troubleshooting, industrial equipment repair, welding, fabrication, and preventive maintenance. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical background and at least five years of maintenance or equipment repair experience, along with hands-on welding and fabrication experience.

This is a 6-month contract opportunity with the potential to convert to a permanent position based on performance and business needs.

SCHEDULE

Candidates must be flexible and able to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift, including weekends and holidays, as operational needs require.
  • 1st Shift: 5:00 AM-1:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 1:00 PM-9:30 PM
  • 3rd Shift: 9:00 PM-5:30 AM
Important: This position regularly works outdoors on the airport tarmac around aircraft and heavy equipment. Required PPE and safety training will be provided. Employees must follow all airport and workplace safety procedures.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment and systems supporting airport operations.
  • Perform scheduled, unscheduled, emergency, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment and systems.
  • Fabricate, modify, join, and repair equipment, fixtures, brackets, guards, supports, and other metal components.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, Stick, and other applicable welding processes according to specifications and safety requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, technical manuals, specifications, and work orders.
  • Identify equipment issues and recommend appropriate repairs or corrective actions.
  • Accurately document maintenance, repair, welding, and fabrication activities using a CMMS.
  • Communicate critical equipment conditions and repair needs to supervisors.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools, welding equipment, measuring devices, forklifts, lift equipment, and authorized company vehicles.
  • Follow established safety, housekeeping, hazardous-material, and airport operating procedures.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, equipment maintenance, or a related skilled technical field.
  • Previous hands-on welding and fabrication experience is required.
  • Welding certificate or equivalent recognized welding training.
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Experience working with mechanical, pneumatic, and/or hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to fabricate, modify, and repair metal components and structures.
  • Ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain required airport security clearance.
  • Ability to work any of the three shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Technical, vocational, or military maintenance training.
  • Welding experience with aluminum and stainless steel.
  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment and electrical schematics.
  • Experience maintaining airport, industrial, material-handling, manufacturing, or heavy equipment.
  • Experience using CMMS software.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

This is an active, hands-on industrial position. Candidates must be comfortable:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and working in confined areas.
  • Climbing ladders and working at heights when required.
  • Regularly lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Working around aircraft, moving vehicles, heavy equipment, mechanical systems, sparks, welding fumes, and loud noise.
  • Following strict airport and workplace safety requirements.
