About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Maintenance Technician I to support safe and reliable plant operations through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment repair, and continuous improvement. This position works hands-on with production equipment and facility systems, using mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic controls knowledge to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production equipment, facility systems, and supporting utilities
- Inspect, adjust, lubricate, and test mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, HVAC, and plumbing systems
- Identify equipment wear, potential failures, and reliability concerns and recommend corrective actions
- Troubleshoot equipment issues using schematics, manuals, meters, gauges, and other diagnostic tools
- Repair or replace bearings, belts, motors, sensors, wiring, filters, valves, pumps, controls, and other components
- Support HVAC, plumbing, structural, and general facility repairs as needed
- Follow company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, confined space requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
- Maintain safety equipment and help verify that alarms, extinguishers, and other emergency systems are operational
- Report hazards, unsafe conditions, recurring equipment failures, and operational risks
- Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, equipment findings, and required follow-up
- Maintain tools, spare parts, and maintenance supply inventory and communicate replenishment needs
- Update preventive maintenance schedules, equipment logs, CMMS records, and work orders as required
- Respond to maintenance work orders, production support requests, and facility needs with appropriate urgency
- Perform general facility maintenance, including painting, light construction, cleaning, grounds support, and minor building repairs
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas, tools, and equipment
- Coordinate with maintenance, production, engineering, safety, vendors, and contractors to complete work safely and efficiently
- Identify recurring equipment issues and provide recommendations for reliability improvements, parts needs, and equipment upgrades
- Assist with training, coaching, and knowledge sharing for new or less-experienced maintenance personnel
- Communicate maintenance status and equipment conditions clearly with production and other key stakeholders
- Travel occasionally as required, generally less than 10%
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training, certification, or an associate degree in industrial maintenance, electrical, automation, HVAC, welding, or a related field is a plus
- 5+ years of industrial, manufacturing, or commercial maintenance experience with hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, basic controls, and reading prints and schematics
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting, VFDs, boilers, water treatment, welding, fabrication, or similar plant equipment and systems
- Familiarity with CMMS, root cause analysis, preventive maintenance, and equipment reliability improvements
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, safety, and organizational skills
- Dependable, adaptable, and able to respond effectively to changing equipment and production priorities
- Fluent English required; Spanish is a plus
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, work possible weekends, and travel less than 10%
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds or more
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb ladders, and work at heights
- Ability to enter confined spaces and work in awkward positions
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools
- Ability to work in varying plant and weather conditions while following required safety procedures
