Electrical Engineer 3 - Plutonium Facilities Rapid Response Team Location: Los Alamos, NM (100% Onsite - TA-35/TA-55) Compensation: $75-$85/hr DOESchedule: 4/10s - Mon-Thu, Thu-Sun, or Fri-Mon Duration: 1 year | Extension up to 3 years | Conversion possibleCitizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required Clearance: Ability to obtain DOE Q Clearance | A-Level Access RequiredPer Diem: Available | No relocation | No travel expected | Start: ASAPWHY THIS ROLEThis is a senior electrical design engineering role at the heart of LANL's Plutonium Rapid Response Team. As an Electrical Engineer 3, you will take on more complex design and coordination responsibilities, provide technical direction to junior engineers, and lead assigned activities across facility design, construction, and field engineering support at and around TA-55.You will own advanced electrical design deliverables, support interdisciplinary coordination, and directly resolve field issues impacting construction and facility operations - all within one of the most technically demanding and security-sensitive nuclear environments in the country. With strong extension and conversion potential, this is an opportunity to build a long-term career at a world-class national laboratory.WHAT YOU'LL DOPerform electrical engineering design, analysis, calculations, and design reviewsDevelop, review, interpret, and support electrical engineering design packagesProduce and review construction documents, drawings, specifications, calculations, markups, and technical deliverablesSupport facility design, operations, maintenance, construction, modifications, and project executionReview LAP-4 designs and internal design packagesSupport field engineering questions, construction documentation, design interpretation, and field issue mitigationProvide engineering input for low-voltage facility power systems including 120V, 208V, and below-480V applicationsSupport conductor sizing, conduit sizing, junction box layouts, electrical routing, equipment installation, and construction-ready design documentationCoordinate across engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, work control, project management, and facility organizationsApply applicable electrical engineering codes, standards, procedures, and DOE/NNSA requirementsUse engineering technology, drafting tools, and markup software to support design development and reviewWork independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline engineering teamContinuously improve engineering work processes to meet customer and mission needsProvide technical direction and support junior engineering personnel in design development and field execution activitiesLead assigned activities and coordinate more complex engineering deliverables across disciplinesREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEngineer 3 - Minimum RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university6+ years of relevant electrical engineering experienceAdvanced ability to produce, review, and interpret electrical construction documents, drawings, specifications, and design packagesAbility to support more complex design, field engineering, construction, and interdisciplinary coordination activitiesDemonstrated ability to provide technical direction and lead assigned engineering activitiesWorking knowledge of industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA codes, standards, and criteria relevant to electrical engineeringKnowledge of commonly applied codes and standards at DOE and DOD facilities including NQA-1, IBC, NFPA, and NECPrior experience facilitating, developing, reviewing, or supporting engineering design packagesFamiliarity with typical engineering deliverables including construction documentsExperience with computer-aided design and drafting software or markup toolsAbility to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline technical teamAbility to access plant and facility areas and walk around field locations as neededAbility to obtain and maintain a DOE Q ClearanceAbility to obtain required LANL access including green strap and A-Level accessS. Citizenship requiredDESIRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience supporting DOE, NNSA, DOD, LANL, nuclear, high-hazard, or mission-critical facilitiesPrevious experience supporting TA-55, plutonium facilities, RLUOB, or related nuclear facility environmentsExperience with facility electrical design, low-voltage power distribution, 120V/208V systems, below-480V applications, panels, feeders, conductors, conduit, junction boxes, grounding, lighting, controls, instrumentation, one-lines, schematics, and equipment installation supportExperience creating construction documents and technical specificationsExperience reading and interpreting existing facility drawings and internal design packagesExperience mitigating field issues and supporting construction or maintenance executionExperience supporting operations, maintenance, facility modifications, or rapid-response engineering requestsExperience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, BIM, or other design and markup toolsControl system experience useful but not requiredFamiliarity with LANL engineering processes, procedures, standards, and guidesKnowledge of DOE Order 426.2 or nuclear facility personnel qualification requirementsCurrent EIT or PE registration is a plus
