Recreation CoordinatorSUMMARY OF POSITIONPosition involves the facilitation of various recreation and sports activities, including instruction and supervision, as well as assisting in various special events and office activities for the Department of Parks and Recreation.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions include the following and the Physical Requirements listed below)Facilitate various recreation and sports activitiesPlan, promote, organize, schedule, and lead activities for youth and adult programs as determined with the supervisorMaintain records such as attendance, income from fees, expenditures, and time sheetsMaintain ongoing inventory control of recreation equipment and suppliesAssist with registration for department programs, and answer specific program questionsMonitor the number of teams or individual registrations for programsInstruction at various recreation and sports activitiesAssist in special events and recreation activitiesAssist with office operations for the Parks and Recreation DepartmentAssist in set-up and tear down for facility reservationsPerforms related duties as assigned by supervisor or as in the personnel policyBASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONSValid Driver's LicenseKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIREDWritten and verbal communication skillsBasic computer and office equipment skillsPublic and internal relationship skillsSupervisory and instruction skillsKnowledge of various sportsFirst Aid TrainingAthletic skills required when coaching or conducting campsPossession of personal characteristics that create and maintain interest and enthusiasm with public and private groups and individuals of all agesAbility to maintain excellent public relations with the general public and user groupsAvailability to work evenings, weekends, or other irregular hours, and as necessary, to make and receive contacts by telephone and in person efficiently and effectively during irregular hoursAbility to communicate effectively with the press, as authorized, to inform public of eventsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSSufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and recreation facility settingFrequent standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling for prolonged periods of timeManual dexterity to operate office equipment, requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination skills, including skillful use of a computer keyboardAbility to travel to various recreation sitesAbility to verbally communicate effectively to exchange informationAbility to lift 15 pounds on a frequent and regular basis, and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basisAbility to bend, stretch, and maneuver objects weighing up to 25 pounds on a frequent and regular basis.WORKING CONDITIONSMost work will be performed in a recreational setting, either outdoors or indoors, with the Employee traveling to different locations. However, employee will occasionally work in an office setting.The Employee may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and work and/or walk on various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces.The Employee will frequently be required to work evenings and weekends, and occasionally work extended hours.
