Position Overview

The Ultrasonic Technician is responsible for performing ultrasonic non-destructive testing on forged and manufactured metal components to verify internal integrity and compliance with engineering specifications, customer requirements, and applicable aerospace quality standards.

This position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to identify, interpret, evaluate, and document discontinuities within critical components. The ideal candidate has previous ultrasonic inspection experience within aerospace, forging, metals, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform ultrasonic testing (UT) on forged, machined, and processed metal components.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate ultrasonic inspection equipment.
  • Perform inspections according to approved procedures, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Interpret ultrasonic indications and determine acceptance or rejection based on applicable criteria.
  • Inspect components for internal discontinuities, inclusions, cracks, voids, and other potential defects.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and inspection requirements.
  • Accurately document inspection results and maintain required quality records.
  • Verify equipment calibration and perform system checks prior to inspections.
  • Maintain inspection equipment, reference standards, probes, and testing materials.
  • Identify and document nonconforming material according to established procedures.
  • Communicate inspection findings with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions when required.
  • Maintain product identification and traceability throughout the inspection process.
  • Follow all applicable safety, quality, and NDT procedures.
Qualifications
  • NDT Level II certification in Ultrasonic Testing preferred.
  • Previous experience performing ultrasonic inspections in a manufacturing environment.
  • Aerospace, forging, steel, titanium, nickel alloy, or specialty metals experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to set up and calibrate ultrasonic inspection equipment.
  • Ability to interpret A-scan signals and evaluate inspection results.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of NDT inspection principles and documentation requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to accurately document inspection results and maintain traceability.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASNT Level II or equivalent employer-based certification in UT.
  • Experience inspecting aerospace forgings.
  • Experience with immersion and/or contact ultrasonic testing.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 and Nadcap requirements.
  • Additional NDT certifications such as Magnetic Particle (MT) or Liquid Penetrant (PT) are a plus.
  • Experience working with titanium, nickel-based superalloys, steel, and aluminum components.
