Job Title: Mechanical System Design Engineer Location: Corvallis, OR Type: Direct Hire
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical engineering assignments related to the design, inspection, and testing of nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) components in accordance with industry and regulatory standards.
- Review and evaluate plant systems to ensure design, performance, inspection, and testing requirements are met.
- Prepare, check, and review engineering reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design documents.
- Lead and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on complex design tasks, proposing innovative solutions.
- Manage vendor design activities for NSSS components, ensuring compliance with NuScale and regulatory requirements.
- Interpret project scope and requirements, developing design alternatives as needed.
- Serve as test program sponsor for relevant testing scopes in your area of expertise.
- Interface with licensing authorities to support regulatory compliance in domestic and international efforts.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers in NSSS design practices.
- Coordinate with colleagues across disciplines to resolve technical issues and optimize design processes.
- Maintain and develop training and qualifications aligned with industry standards.
- Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally, creating clear documentation and presentations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project and organizational goals.
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical).
- Professional engineer license (P.E.) in Mechanical or Nuclear is preferred but not required.
- At least 10 years of relevant nuclear experience, with strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Experience managing complex projects with multiple phases and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards, 10 CFR 50, and nuclear utility or plant experience is advantageous.
- Experience with NSSS component design, inspection, and testing.
- Understanding of nuclear licensing processes, especially within the domestic sector.
- Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
- Ability to learn rapidly, adapt to changing environments, and travel as needed.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Adherence to high standards of safety and quality assurance, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
