(GPN)

Position Summary

A Graduate Practical Nurse (GPN) is a recent nursing program graduate who is awaiting licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in New York State. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the GPN provides basic nursing care and supports patient treatment plans in healthcare settings

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide basic patient care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility assistance

  • Measure and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure)

  • Assist with wound care and simple medical procedures

  • Administer medications only as permitted under supervision and state guidelines

  • Monitor patient conditions and report changes to supervising RN

  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation

  • Support infection control and safety protocols

  • Assist patients with daily living activities (ADLs)

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members

Supervision
  • Works under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse

  • Cannot practice independently until fully licensed as an LPN

  • GPNs are welcome! With our ratios, we have the bandwidth to provide excellent orientation and mentorship.

Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program

  • Eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam

  • Current CPR/BLS certification (often required)

  • Basic clinical and patient care skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Attention to detail and documentation accuracy

  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision

  • Compassion and patient-centered care approach

Pay range
  • GPN: ~$22-$26/HR

Career Progression
  • Pass NCLEX-PN → Become LPN

  • Gain experience → specialize or move into higher-paying roles

  • Option to pursue RN (Associate or BSN)
