Second Shift Grinder
Job Description
Job Summary:
Grinding of castings, forgings and weldments, using handheld grinders, in accordance with verbal and written procedures, standards and specifications.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate handheld grinders weighing from 3 lbs. to 16 lbs.
- Remove metal using a variety of abrasive wheels, standing for long periods of time.
- Ensures parts are finish ground according to established specifications and expectations, re-positions castings/parts as needed to accomplish this, following verbal and written instructions.
- Have the physical dexterity to grind in various positions, including outside and inside castings, fabrications, etc.
- Must be able to wear a respirator when required.
- Follows verbal and written instructions, sketches and blueprints.
- Operate forklift trucks, overhead crane, hand trucks, floor or hanging scales and banding equipment.
- Verify information on documents to correspond with parts.
- Record information in accordance with instructions.
- Serialize parts using vibro-tool or stamping using hammer and steel stamps.
- Adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
Job Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma preferred.
Experience:
Some related work experience in an industrial, mechanical, welding or machining environment is desirable. An appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.
Skills:
- Ability to use handheld power grinders.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and the ability to read/write in English.
- Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
Physical and Mental Efforts:
General: Extensive mobility required, some moderate to heavy lifting. Position requires the ability to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds occasionally; walk and stand for long durations; see objects closely; and hear normal sounds with some background noises. The position requires the ability to concentrate with some interruption and attend to tasks for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.
