Position Summary

Seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / CNC Setup Operator to set up and operate multiple CNC machine tools in a low-volume, high-mix job-shop environment. The role requires strong CNC programming, blueprint reading, GD&T, inspection, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently and maintain tight precision tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate multiple CNC machine tools from initial setup through completion of production runs.
  • Interpret and edit CNC programs and navigate FANUC controls, including wear and geometry offsets.
  • Perform machine setups within established cycle times and maintain productivity targets.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary process adjustments.
  • Use Renishaw probing systems and perform basic Easy Setting functions.
  • Set up and operate CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) equipment.
  • Inspect finished components using engineering drawings, blueprints, gauges, and inspection equipment.
  • Complete FAI (First Article Inspection) documentation.
  • Enter and analyze SPC (Statistical Process Control) data and make process adjustments.
  • Perform TPM inspections and maintain required equipment checklists.
  • Maintain 5S standards and a safe, organized work cell.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives including SMED, Kaizen, and fixture design.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and manufacturing standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience.
  • High school diploma/GED; Associate Degree in Machine Tool Technology preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC setup and operation.
  • Ability to interpret and edit CNC programs.
  • Experience with FANUC controls.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and inspection methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, tool prints, and sketches.
  • Strong shop mathematics skills, including trigonometry and the Pythagorean theorem.
  • Ability to machine complex components to tight tolerances and specified finishes.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred / Additional Skills

  • Experience with Renishaw probing systems.
  • CMM setup and operation experience.
  • SPC and First Article Inspection experience.
  • Knowledge of TPM, 5S, Kaizen, SMED, and continuous improvement.
  • Basic rigging knowledge and experience with cranes, hoists, and related safety inspections.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.

Ideal Candidate

A senior CNC machinist/setup operator with 5+ years of experience who can independently handle machine setup, CNC programming adjustments, precision inspection, troubleshooting, and production from start to finish.
