Pay: $16–$18/hour
Hours: Approximately 60 hours every two weeks

About the Position

Safe Haven Home Care is seeking a dependable and compassionate DSP to provide one-on-one support for an individual living with his great-grandparents.

Our client has Autism, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, and blindness and requires hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), mobility, and daily routines.

His great-grandmother has provided much of his care but needs additional help. We're looking for someone who can become a consistent, reliable part of his support system and help make daily life easier for both him and his family.

Schedule

Monday–Friday: 2:00 PM–7:00 PM
Every Other Weekend: Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 AM–7:00 PM

Approximately 60 hours every two weeks. Applicants should be able to reliably work this schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, hygiene, and other ADLs
  • Assist with meals and meal preparation
  • Provide mobility and physical assistance as needed
  • Maintain client safety and assist with daily routines
  • Provide companionship and positive social interaction
  • Encourage independence and participation whenever possible
  • Assist with light housekeeping and laundry related to the client's care
  • Accompany the client to doctor's appointments and other appointments
  • Assist with community outings, errands, and recreational activities
  • Complete required daily service documentation
  • Communicate concerns or changes to Safe Haven and the family
For appointments and community activities, the DSP may drive separately or ride with the family. Mileage for approved work-related travel using your personal vehicle will be reimbursed.

Home Environment

The client lives with his great-grandparents. There are two German Shepherds and a cat in the home. The dogs are typically kept outside or away from the primary care area, but applicants must be comfortable around pets and large dogs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable transportation and proof of auto insurance
  • Ability to pass required BCI/FBI background checks
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
  • Must complete required Ohio DODD training/certification
  • Comfortable providing hands-on personal care
  • Able to safely assist with mobility and physical support
  • Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for documentation
  • Dependable, patient, respectful, and able to work independently
Experience supporting individuals with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, blindness, mobility limitations, or significant ADL needs is preferred, but we will consider candidates with relevant caregiving experience and the right temperament.
