Legal Billing Specialist
Job Description
Job Summary:
The Billing Specialist is responsible for the accurate and efficient preparation of bills and invoices for multiple Billing Attorneys. Candidate should be detail-oriented, an analytical person, good with people and numbers and able to easily move from one task to another. Be flexible to work overtime as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Performs a wide variety of functions within the accounting department while maintaining an extremely high standard of professionalism, attendance, and confidentiality. Functions to be performed include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the accurate and efficient preparation of monthly pre-bills and client invoices in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensures monthly billing schedules remain on schedule.
- Reviews and edits pre-bills in response to Attorney and Staff requests.
- Responds to inquiries related to billing, bills research, and assists in resolving complex billing issues.
- Utilizes accounting software programs (ProLaw, Excel, Word).
- Undertakes special projects and ad hoc reports for manager as needed/requested.
- Proactive in seeking innovative ways to help others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Your Background, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Bookkeeping or Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years prior experience as a Biller preferably with a law firm.
- ProLaw or other legal software experience helpful; collection experience a plus.
- Proficient with Windows-based software and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
- Understanding of standard accounting practices and procedures.
- High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively.
- Exceptional analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), professional demeanor and presentation.
