Global Materials Compliance Engineer
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to Manager, EHS providing guidance to EHS, Trade Compliance and Legal Teams, the Global
Material Compliance Engineer will work with divisions and factories regarding composition of the parts
distributes. Educate divisions and suppliers about relevant regulatory requirements within the US and
abroad, such as EPA, TSCA, Prop65, RoHS, REACH and SCIP. Implement and maintain a material
compliance program for reporting to appropriate agencies meeting global and regional policies. Collaborate
globally with teams to exchange information on material regulations, standards and procedures.
Communicate with government bodies, as required. Monitor changes to regulations to support the business
and understand which rules impact. Working with internal teams, trade
associations, and outside counsel; prepare comments to submit to regulatory bodies prior to the deadlines.
Establish and drive communication of material compliance activities to relevant personnel in a manner they
can understand. Lead multiple projects of varying scope at different times. Understand
corporate social responsibility initiatives and how they impact the business. Review full material disclosures
(FMD), certificates of compliance (CoC) and analytical reports for material and made-to-spec parts and
assemblies. Enter data in form of CoC to evaluate relevant regulations. Ensure SCIP database is maintained
accordingly. Travel is required at least 20%, to include international.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain current understanding of all regulatory requirements and current industry standards for
material compliance activities within the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe for products
that are imported and purchased domestically.
Page 1 of 4• Monitor and assure the company’s compliance (where applicable) with global, federal, state and
local laws as they apply to environmental material compliance. Evaluates and determines the impact
of changing regulations; determines plans and implements necessary follow-up action with guidance
from legal department.
• Recognize where pending global regulatory changes, United States government, and/or United
Nation agendas could potentially shift or impact business activities.
• Liaise with Environmental Management Division/Corporate Social Responsibility Groups.
• Develop, implement and manage the company’s material compliance program to include writing
procedures.
• Coordinate with local and international approval agencies to create and maintain regulatory
compliance documentation and certificates, including the generation of and obtaining approvals for
"Declarations of Conformity" and similar documents. Review relevant compliance periodicals and
web sites, review of current and new standards, interactions with agency personnel, and attends
seminars/webinars and designated committee meetings.
• Organize and/or conduct or participate in regular audits or inspections, as required.
• Provide technical assistance with the development of site or corporate EHS standards and procedures
as required.
• Lead environmental meetings with divisions, corporate group representatives; prepare regular reports
and maintain appropriate documentation in compliance with regulations and laws.
• Serve as an environmental resource to all divisions; provides consultation, guidance and technical
assistance related to matters of material compliance.
• Help develop and provide onsite training and counseling on material compliance topics.
• Provides consulting and guidance to divisions who encounter material compliance requirements
and/or request at/from customer sites.
• Utilizing third party software, ensure regulatory questionnaires are submitted and completed by
suppliers for all required regulatory matters, to include part level inquiries.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
• BS Degree in safety or related industry preferred – other applicable education and/or equivalent
experience will be considered.
• Related environmental certifications preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
• Five to seven years’ experience in global regulatory compliance, environmental compliance, or
consulting fields.
• Knowledge of EPA, TSCA, REACH, RoHS, SCIP, Prop65; as well as other related standards for
environmental compliance.
• Working knowledge of key international standards such as ISO9001 and ISO14001.
• Experience with communicating environmental requirements to management and experience
interacting with regulators.

• Strong work ethic and self-motivated to work outside normal business hours to complete
responsibilities and correspond/communicate with staff around the globe.
• Demonstrated project management and process development skills.
• Must be willing to travel (minimum 20%) and have a valid driver’s license to operate a motor
vehicle.
