Job Description

Project Manager / Assistant Project Manager

Charlotte, NC | Full-Time | In Office with Regular Travel required throughout NC, SC, & VA

About Unistrut Carolinas

Unistrut Carolinas (a Division of Strut Services Group, Inc.) is a commercial subcontractor and material supplier based in Charlotte, NC. We specialize in the design, engineering, and installation of overhead Unistrut support systems across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Our crews build critical infrastructure support systems for demanding environments — including X-Ray, CT, MRI suites, heart and vascular labs, and operating rooms in healthcare facilities. We also provide hot aisle containment systems in data centers, overhead supports in university science labs, and rooftop walkways. We complete roughly 120 projects a year including, new construction and renovations of existing facilities.

Position Summary

We're looking for an organized, detail-oriented Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager to own projects from start to finish — from the initial invitation to bid through final close-out documentation. This is a hands-on role that moves between the office, contractor/vendor meetings, and job sites, coordinating bids, schedules, and installation crews to keep every project on track. Depending on experience, this role will be hired at either the Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager level.

What You'll Do

  • Review invitations to bid (ITBs), drawings, and specifications to prepare accurate estimates and proposals
  • Track bid opportunities and manage the pipeline from estimate through award
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for general contractors, customers, and vendors throughout each project
  • Attend pre-construction and progress meetings with contractors and site superintendents
  • Conduct job site visits ahead of installation to verify field conditions, confirm access, and validate scope
  • Coordinate scheduling with installation crews and the internal team to avoid overlaps and delays
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, and material procurement
  • Maintain project documentation throughout the job, including schedules, correspondence, and field notes
  • Assemble and submit close-out documents — as-builts, warranties, and final invoicing — at project completion
  • Support project budgeting and track job costs against estimates

What We're Looking For

  • Prior project management experience in construction, MEP, or a related subcontractor trade is preferred
  • Candidates with strong organizational and communication skills but less direct PM experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for the Assistant Project Manager role, with room to grow into Project Manager
  • Estimating or bid preparation experience is a plus
  • Comfortable reading construction drawings and specifications
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites across NC, SC, and VA
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work independently and manage multiple projects at once
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Bluebeam, Autodesk, and Procore; familiarity with scheduling or estimating software is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Health, dental and vision insurance
  • PTO
  • 401k with company match
  • Life insurance
  • Paid mileage
