Job Description
A full-time Registered Nurse (RN) Circulator in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) with sedation experience is responsible for managing the nursing care of patients undergoing outpatient procedures. This role bridges standard operating room (OR) duties with specific expertise in administering and monitoring conscious (moderate) sedation.
Core Responsibilities
- Sedation Management: Administers and monitors moderate sedation medications under physician direction. This includes continuous assessment of airway protection, oxygen saturation, and hemodynamic stability during procedures.
- Patient Advocacy: Serves as the primary advocate for patients while they are under sedation, ensuring their safety, dignity, and comfort.
- Intraoperative Coordination: Manages the OR environment, coordinates with the surgical team, and ensures all sterile techniques and AORN standards are maintained.
- Clinical Documentation: Records all aspects of the procedure, including medication dosages, vital signs, and surgical time-outs.

Perioperative Flow: Assists in prepping and positioning patients and facilitates transitions between Pre-Op, the OR, and PACU.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education & Licensure: Must hold a current, unrestricted RN license and be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Certifications:
- Required: BLS and ACLS are standard.
- Highly Desirable: PALS (for pediatric populations) and CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room).
- Experience: Typically requires at least one year of perioperative or procedural experience, with specific competency in conscious sedation.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods and lift/assist with patient transfers (up to 50 lbs).
