CNC SET UP MACHINIST
Job Description
Overview:
The CNC Operator II is an advanced CNC machine operator with the knowledge to operate CNC machine tools, the skills and experience to set-up CNC machine tools, including but not limited to program verification; tooling, clamping, jig, and fixture selection and configuration. This position represents the 2nd tier of metal working skills in the company.
Responsibilities:
• Apply basic knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, engineering drawings, metal properties, layout and machining procedures to set-up and operate CNC machine tools accurately, safely and efficiently under the direction of the Shop Supervisor.
• Confer with the Shop Supervisor and programmers to verify the proper function of programs.
• Alert the Shop Supervisor and the QA department of any nonconformance or abnormal occurrence.
• Fabricate first article parts to specifications using CNC machine tools such as lathes and mills.
• Inspect and verify conformance to specifications on first article machined parts.
• Operate CNC machine tools to fabricate precision production parts.
• Monitor the machining processes during operation and confer with the Shop Supervisor to adjust controls to regulate machining.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on assigned machines and perform routine maintenance tasks on the equipment.
• Support compliance with ISO and the Business Management System policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of CNC machine tool operation experience within the same or a related industry.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical principles; arithmetic, algebra and geometry, metal properties, layout and set-up techniques and CNC machining procedures.
• Understand machine language and “G” codes
• Ability to edit programs desired, but not required.
• Must own and use personal tools necessary to perform the position requirements
• Read and correctly interpret basic engineering drawings.
• Experience in care and maintenance of industrial machine tools.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand spoken and written English with sufficient proficiency to perform position requirements accurately and safely and to comprehend and comply with the Business Management System policies and procedures.
• High school diploma or GED certificate
• Apprenticeship papers or journeyman’s card or relevant Associates Degree desirable, but not required.
• Prior work experience in an ISO 9000 registered company desirable, but not required.
