Adaptive Skills Trainer
Job Description
The role of the trainer is to provide adaptive skills training to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Trainers will be assigned a workload that may consist of 1-10 clients each with varying hours ranging from 20-40+ hours per week. This position requires travel to and from the consumers homes as well as virtual sessions. Some of the job duties are participating with the family on establishing independent/ family goals, assist in daily living skills (i.e. personal hygiene tasks), communication, socialization and more.
Responsibilities and Duties will include:
• Provide direct training (in-home and virtual)
• Provide feedback to parents
• Collaborate with team members, parents, and AST providers
• Write notes and reports
• Review notes and reports
• Attend staff meetings, clinical meetings and mentor meetings
• Record data
• Ensure the proper taking of data and notes
• Comply with HIPAA laws and regulations
Preferred Candidate:
• CPR and HIPPA Training, Safety First Training, and Mandated Reporting (procedures, laws, regulations) Training.
• Clean driving record for 2 years
• Familiarity with HIPPA and North Los Angeles County Regional Center
• Previous experience working with developmental disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Fragile X, Asperger's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD.
• Previous experience with the following: ABA, BCBA, Adaptive skills, Adaptive skills trainer Aide, Supported living, Supportive employment, Clinical Supervisor, Behavior Technician, Behavioral therapist, ABA, Caregiver, Special education.
Bachelor's Degree Required
Beyond Expectations provides Adaptive Skills Training (AST) services to children, adolescents, and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Training is individualized based on each person’s needs, abilities, and goals. Services may focus on areas such as personal hygiene and self-care, communication, social skills, household responsibilities, meal preparation, money management, community safety, transportation skills, organization, problem-solving, and appropriate decision-making. We also assist individuals with developing routines, increasing self-advocacy, and strengthening skills needed to participate more independently in school, work, and community settings.
Our Adaptive Skills Trainers work directly with individuals and their families to provide hands-on instruction, modeling, prompting, and reinforcement. Progress is documented and monitored to ensure services remain focused on the individual's identified goals.
