Location: Survival House, Hagerstown, Maryland

Facility Type: New 3.1 Substance Abuse Treatment Center

Position Summary

The Direct Care Worker (Behavioral Health Technician) provides direct supervision and support to residents in an ASAM 3.1 clinically managed residential treatment program. This role helps maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment that supports recovery from substance use disorders. Direct Care Workers assist residents with daily living activities, monitor compliance with program policies, observe medication administration, and support the clinical team with program operations including resident intakes and documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily supervision and support to residents participating in the residential treatment program.

  • Monitor resident behavior and ensure compliance with program rules, schedules, and treatment expectations.

  • Conduct room checks, safety checks, and curfew checks to maintain program structure and accountability.

  • Observe residents taking prescribed medications in accordance with program policies and medication protocols.

  • Conduct routine medication counts and maintain medication logs to ensure accuracy and compliance with facility procedures.

  • Report any medication concerns, missed doses, or irregularities to the clinical or nursing staff immediately.

  • Assist with resident intakes and orientations, including reviewing program rules, completing intake paperwork, and ensuring residents understand program expectations.

  • Document resident interactions, observations, incidents, and daily activities according to program policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Encourage participation in clinical groups, recovery meetings, and treatment activities.

  • Support residents in developing daily structure, accountability, and healthy routines.

  • Communicate concerns, behavioral changes, or treatment needs to the clinical team and program leadership.

  • Assist with conflict resolution and promote a respectful and supportive living environment.

  • Ensure confidentiality and protect resident information in accordance with HIPAA.

  • Respond to emergencies and follow all facility safety and crisis intervention protocols.

  • Monitor common areas and report maintenance or safety concerns to ensure a safe facility environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Experience working in substance use treatment, recovery housing, behavioral health, or social services preferred.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and provide supportive accountability.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based treatment environment.

  • Basic computer and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in substance use disorder treatment or recovery programs.

  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Knowledge of 12-step recovery programs.

  • Experience working with individuals involved in the criminal justice or reentry system.

Work Environment

This position operates within a 24-hour ASAM 3.1 residential treatment facility, providing structured support for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Staff work collaboratively with the clinical team to help residents build stability, accountability, and long-term recovery success.
