Traffic Control Officers – Norristown, PA – 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM - $20.00 per hour

Position Summary


The Traffic Control Officer is responsible for maintaining the safe and efficient flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic on and around the high school campus during student arrival, dismissal, special events, and other high-traffic periods. This position helps ensure the safety of students, staff, parents, visitors, and community members by directing traffic, monitoring designated crossing areas, and enforcing established traffic procedures. The Traffic Control Officer plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors while supporting the mission and operations of the school. Assignment could lead to a longer-term role with the company.


Dates: August 28 to September 30 – extension possible

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Location: Norristown, PA

Schedule: Monday to Friday - 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct vehicle traffic during student drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Assist students, staff, and visitors in safely crossing parking lots, driveways, and roadways.
  • Monitor school entrances, parking lots, and designated traffic zones.
  • Enforce school traffic patterns, parking regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, visitors, staff, and local law enforcement when necessary.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, accidents, incidents, or security concerns to school administration.
  • Assist with traffic and parking management during athletic events, graduations, assemblies, and special school functions.
  • Maintain visibility in assigned traffic control areas and provide excellent customer service to the public.
  • Sets up and remove traffic cones, barriers, signs, and other traffic control devices
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and assist with evacuation or traffic redirection when needed.
  • Complete incident reports and maintain accurate records as required.


Qualifications

  • Ability to successfully pass required background checks for a public school
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in traffic control, security, public safety, law enforcement, crossing guard services, or related fields preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-traffic and stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of traffic safety principles and regulations preferred.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in an outdoor work environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Ability to lift and carry traffic control equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Sufficient vision and hearing to safely monitor traffic and pedestrians while being exposed to moving vehicles.
Maintains order and safety within school environments. Monitors student traffic, patrols facilities, and responds to emergencies. Required to have at least 3 years of security, police, or military experience. Must pass background checks and clearances.
