Automotive Student Technician – Quality / Vehicle Technician
Location: Auburn Hills, MI – Auburn Hills Headquarters
Schedule: Full-Time / Entry Level
Assignment: September 1, 2026 – November 30, 2026
Pay Rate: $19.31/hour
Job Summary
We are seeking an Automotive Student Technician for an entry-level opportunity supporting an internal fleet diagnostics and repair shop. This position is ideal for an automotive student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in vehicle inspection, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair.
The Automotive Student Technician will work under the guidance of experienced technicians while developing practical technical skills and gaining exposure to automotive systems and repair procedures.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist experienced technicians with vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs
• Perform basic automotive services, including:
o Oil changes
o Tire rotations
o Battery checks
o Fluid checks and top-offs
• Assist with diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic equipment under supervision
• Properly use and maintain automotive tools and equipment
• Document work performed and communicate findings to supervising technicians
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and automotive shop standards
• Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Participate in training and ongoing skill development
• Support other shop activities as directed by senior technicians
Qualifications
• Current student or recent graduate pursuing automotive technology, automotive service, or a related field preferred
• Basic understanding of automotive systems, components, and repair practices
• Strong willingness to learn and accept direction from experienced technicians
• Good problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Ability to follow safety procedures and work instructions
• Valid driver's license required
• Basic automotive toolbox required
Work Environment
• Work is performed in an internal automotive fleet diagnostics and repair shop
• Hands-on environment involving vehicles, tools, diagnostic equipment, and automotive service activities
• Must follow all applicable safety requirements and wear required PPE
• May require standing, bending, lifting, and working around vehicles and shop equipment
