JOB SUMMARY

Covalent Solutions (Covalent) is seeking a mission-driven, highly organized, and collaborative Science Analyst to support the All of Us Research Program (AOU) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). AOU was established to accelerate health research and medical breakthroughs to enable an era of precision medicine for all.

The Science Analyst will serve as a trusted scientific partner to AOU’s Chief Medical and Scientific Officer (CMSO) and executive leadership, providing subject-matter expertise and supporting planning and oversight of priority research initiatives. This includes conducting research analysis and program evaluation, preparing briefings for executive decision-making, and coordinating with internal teams and external partners. The ideal candidate has a strong scientific background, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to move comfortably between detailed technical work, executive-level advising, and internal and external stakeholder management.

For the right individual, this unique role will serve as an unparalleled opportunity to learn firsthand what it takes to lead and manage in a fast-paced, big-thinking, mission-driven organization and to learn from, listen to, and support experts in the field of precision medicine. An individual in this role will be exposed to a wide range of responsibilities and must have the ability to prioritize effectively, act quickly, maintain confidentiality and loyalty, and bring others along.

Location: Remote eligible; however, candidates local to the Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia (DMV) area are preferred. Personnel must be available to travel to the client’s Bethesda, MD offices as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Scientific Strategy & Leadership Support: Bring strategic thinking and sound judgment to the planning and execution of CMSO priorities. Apply a big-picture lens to the preparation of slides, talking points, and briefing materials for CMSO meetings and speaking engagements, and follow up on resulting action items. Synthesize complex data and research findings into actionable summaries and recommendations to support executive-level decision-making. Contribute ideas and coordination support to special projects aligned with CMSO strategic priorities.
  • Program Development & Evaluation Support: Contribute critical thinking and scientific insight to identify, develop, and evaluate research opportunities. Prepare research plans, proposals, and new research concepts and initiatives for the CMSO's review. Review and refine abstracts, publications, and project proposals. Think strategically about gaps in scientific knowledge, assess the research landscape, and recommend future research directions.
  • Data & Research Analysis: Apply analytical rigor, deep synthesis, and thoughtful judgment to capture program learnings, analyze program data, and support the development of research tools. Contribute thoughtful analysis and framing to manuscripts describing program outcomes. Develop proficiency with internal data tools (e.g., Researcher Workbench) to support data requests. Contribute to the development of surveys, protocols, SOPs, and other research instruments.
  • Coordination & Communication: Bring a strategic, audience-aware perspective to coordination and communication efforts for both internal and external stakeholders. Plan and support technical meetings, workshops, and consultations. Draft reports, newsletters, and research summaries tailored to researcher and lay audiences. Coordinate projects from initiation to completion, developing work plans and timelines.
  • Stakeholder & Partnership Support: Think strategically about how partnerships can advance the program's scientific goals. Identify actionable partnership targets based on strategic goals. Bring relationship-building insight to support the growth of early-stage relationships with academic, nonprofit, commercial, pharma, biotech, and technology organizations into sustainable collaborations.
  • Operations & Continuous Improvement: Apply a thoughtful, improvement-oriented lens to program operations. Analyze policies, procedures, and operating workflows to identify efficiencies. Support development of educational and training materials for staff and partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: PhD in Biomedical Science or other equivalent discipline.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional experience; 5+ years is preferred.
  • Professional Background: Demonstrated experience conducting research analysis and program evaluation, coordinating teams, and providing functional support to executive leadership is strongly preferred.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to learn new subject matter quickly, including policy, legal, or regulatory content, and to apply it independently over time.
  • Additional Preferred Experience: Familiarity with the following is nice-to-have:

  • Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems.
