S Y Lee Associates, Inc. is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in MEP building systems. Our projects include commercial, educational/K-12 and higher education, municipal, healthcare, institutional, mixed-use, residential, private development, and other public-sector facilities, including new construction, renovations, modernizations, system upgrades, and existing-building assessments.

We are looking for someone who can take an active role in mechanical design, work independently on projects, and provide technical direction to our engineers, designers, and drafting staff.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of HVAC and mechanical building systems from design through construction documents.
  • Perform and review load calculations, equipment selections, ductwork and piping design, and other mechanical engineering calculations.
  • Prepare and review mechanical plans, specifications, schedules, details, and construction documents.
  • Provide engineering direction and markups to designers and drafting staff.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, code compliance, and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Perform field surveys and evaluate existing mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, agencies, and other members of the project team.
  • Respond to plan-check comments, RFIs, submittals, and construction-related questions.
  • Help manage project schedules and technical deliverables and mentor junior staff as needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a strong background in MEP/building systems.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical design, and applicable building and energy codes.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing construction documents for building projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound engineering decisions, and provide direction to production staff.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Central plants, chilled and hot water systems, heat pumps, VRF, and other commercial HVAC systems.
  • Existing-building renovations, modernization, equipment replacement, and mechanical system assessments.
  • California educational, healthcare, municipal, institutional, and public-sector projects.
  • Familiarity with Title 24, California Building Standards Codes, DSA, and/or HCAI requirements.
  • Experience leading projects and mentoring engineering and design staff.
