Job Description

Title: Dimensional Inspector/QC Technician
Location: Newark, Ca.
Type: Temp to Permanent
Industry: CNC Manufacturing Environment - Custom Automated Production Equipment

Company Overview

Our client is a semiconductor systems integrator specializing in the design, manufacture, and integration of precision subassemblies and equipment for the semiconductor manufacturing industry. The company builds complex electromechanical systems ranging from custom-machined components and subassemblies to fully integrated systems delivered to semiconductor fabrication and OEM customers.

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Technician to inspect and verify the quality of mechanical components, subassemblies, and completed systems throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical inspection skills, be comfortable reading engineering drawings, and understand the high-precision and contamination-sensitive standards associated with semiconductor equipment manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming machined parts, including CNC-milled, turned, and sheet-metal components, against engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and specified tolerances.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs, optical comparators, surface plates, and other precision metrology equipment.
  • Perform first-article inspections (FAIs) and in-process inspections on precision mechanical components.
  • Inspect subassemblies for proper fit, torque specifications, fastener callouts, cleanliness, and finish, including anodizing, plating, and passivation.
  • Conduct final inspections of fully integrated systems, verifying mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic conformance against build specifications and travelers.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using established CMM programs.
  • Verify cleanliness requirements for semiconductor-grade components, including particulate control, cleanroom compatibility, and outgassing requirements.
  • Document inspection results, nonconformances, and deviations within the quality management system, including NCRs and CAPAs.
  • Support root-cause investigations involving rejected components and assemblies.
  • Coordinate with engineering personnel and suppliers regarding corrective actions and quality concerns.
  • Maintain calibration records for inspection tools and gauges.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, bills of materials, assembly travelers, and ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, machinists, and assembly technicians to identify and resolve quality issues.
  • Support supplier-quality audits and incoming-material inspections as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection area consistent with 5S and lean-manufacturing principles.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Quality Technology preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in a quality-control or inspection role within precision machining, electromechanical assembly, or capital-equipment manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings and applying GD&T principles.
  • Hands-on experience using precision measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, and thread gauges.
  • Experience operating and/or programming a CMM is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with quality-documentation processes, including NCRs, CAPAs, FAIs, and manufacturing travelers.
  • Understanding of cleanliness and contamination-control requirements applicable to semiconductor equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and ERP/QMS systems
