The Commercial Electrical Supervisor is a field leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of commercial electrical construction projects. This position manages crews of electricians and apprentices, ensuring all work is completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest standards of quality and code compliance. The Supervisor acts as the primary link between project management and field teams, coordinating manpower, materials, and workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise crews of journeyman electricians and apprentices on commercial project sites, including tenant improvements, ground-up construction, and service work .
  • Plan, assign, and delegate daily work activities to maintain production, quality, and schedule performance .
  • Train and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and safety .

Technical & Project Execution

  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical plans, one-lines, riser diagrams, and project specifications. Translate design intent into executable field plans .
  • Perform layout, rough-in, trim-out, feeder installations, branch circuits, lighting, controls, and equipment installation .
  • Coordinate material takeoffs, tools, and equipment needs with the office and warehouse to minimize downtime and waste .
  • Troubleshoot complex field issues and provide real-time solutions to maintain project momentum .

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce and model company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry standards. Lead job hazard analyses and toolbox talks .
  • Ensure all installations meet National Electrical Code (NEC), local code, and project specification requirements .
  • Prepare for and support inspections by Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), utility representatives, and project inspectors .

Coordination & Administration

  • Coordinate project activities with Project Managers, General Contractors, vendors, and other trades to sequence work and resolve scheduling conflicts .
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, progress updates, photo logs, and red-lined drawings .
  • Identify potential issues, risks, or delays early and escalate as needed to ensure project success .
  • Track labor hours, productivity, and provide input on change orders and project close-out activities .

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience & Education

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of commercial electrical experience required .
  • At least 2-5 years of experience in a supervisory, foreman, or lead role managing field crews .
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an electrical trade school or apprenticeship program preferred .

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record .
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred .

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes .
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and electrical schematics .
  • Demonstrated ability to manage manpower, materials, and project schedules effectively .
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills .
  • Ability to work in a field-based, hands-on supervisory capacity, which may include lifting, climbing, and working outdoors in varying conditions .

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple crews or large-scale commercial projects (e.g., data centers, healthcare, industrial facilities, casinos, etc) .
  • Experience with low-voltage systems, controls, or fire alarm systems .
  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite) .
