Low Voltage Cable Technician
Job Description
Straight Line Communications is a growing technology and infrastructure company specializing in structured cabling and network solutions. We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Cable Technician with a strong background in commercial structured cabling and network infrastructure installations.
This position is ideal for a skilled, detail-oriented technician with hands-on experience installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, label, and test CAT6/CAT6A structured cabling systems
- Install and terminate patch panels, racks, cabinets, and cable management systems
- Install and terminate single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling
- Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and network diagrams
- Perform cable certification and testing using Fluke or equivalent testers
- Troubleshoot cabling and network connectivity issues
- Coordinate with project managers, IT teams, and other trades on-site
- Assist with data room buildouts and network infrastructure installations
- Operate lifts up to 40 feet (certification is a plus)
- Travel to job sites as needed
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of structured cabling experience
- Strong experience with CAT6/CAT6A termination and testing
- Ability to read construction drawings and cabling schematics
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage field responsibilities
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must have own industry-standard tools
- Must pass a background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fiber optic installation and termination
- Fiber certifications (FOA, Corning, BICSI, or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Experience with CCTV, access control, and other low-voltage systems
- Experience using cable certification tools and documentation software
- OSHA certification or other safety training
