Emerald Coast Eye Institute is seeking experienced Senior Ophthalmic Technicians to join our team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in all aspects of ophthalmic care and able to work Monday through Thursday.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Ophthalmic Technician to join our growing, patient-centered eye care team. In this role, you will perform advanced clinical diagnostics, work up patients, assist our ophthalmologists during specialized examinations and procedures, and help lead our back-office clinical flow. The ideal candidate brings strong clinical acumen, exceptional patient empathy, and a desire to mentor junior staff. Must be able to work Mondays through Thursdays.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Diagnostics: Perform comprehensive pre-testing and advanced diagnostics, including (OCT), visual fields, fundus photography, and tonometry, applanation, and Ascans.
- Patient Workups: Efficiently obtain precise patient medical histories, chief complaints, and perform accurate refractions and lensometry.
- Clinical Supervision: Act as a lead tech by coordinating daily clinic flow, managing schedules, and troubleshooting equipment issues.
- Mentorship: Onboard, train, and mentor junior ophthalmic assistants to ensure high standards of clinical excellence.
- Surgical Assistance: Prepare exam rooms, sterilize instruments, and assist physicians with minor in-office surgical or laser procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience as an ophthalmic technician or assistant.
- Certification: COA or COT certification through JCAHPO is highly preferred (or required, if applicable).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating advanced ophthalmic diagnostic machinery and using Electronic Health Records (EHR) software.
- Core Strengths: Outstanding communication skills, strong leadership potential, and the ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced clinic environment.
