We are actively seeking a client-centered and results-driven Occupational Therapist to join our team. In this pivotal independent contractor role, you will apply your expertise to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of pediatric patients with physical, mental, or developmental conditions.
Your responsibilities will include providing effective, personalized services that enable patients to confidently and independently engage in everyday tasks and activities. The ideal candidate will possess a holistic perspective and a creative approach, deftly adapting environments and treatment plans to fit each individual's unique capabilities and goals.
Key Details:
- Status: Independent Contractor position with a flexible schedule.
- Settings: Specialty schools and private day centers, as well as home-based therapy throughout the greater Richmond region.
- Clientele: The primary focus is on students within specialty school programs, with additional opportunities to serve a diverse caseload including private patients, Medicaid Waiver clients, and county CHINS (Child in Need of Services) cases.
Responsibilities:
- Address client’s aspects of performance to support engagement in occupations that affect health, well-being and life quality
- Select and adapt the appropriate per case occupational therapy treatment model, method and approach to direct the process of interventions
- Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
- Teach clients new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components
- Assess client’s home and other environments and advice on alterations consistent with their needs and capabilities
- Recommend adaptive equipment and train in its use if needed--especially related to sensory interventions.
- Guide and educate family members and caregivers
- Observe, note, and report on progress of long and short term treatment goals
- Collect data and document processes followed
- Regularly follow-up with clients
Qualifications and Skills:
- At least three years proven work experience as an occupational therapist
- Experience with trauma training a plus
- Excellent knowledge of principles and practices of occupational therapy
- Familiarity with sensory assessments and interventions
- Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities
- Current knowledge of treatment practices per discipline and drive to continually learn and grow in the profession
- Ability to work independently with strong time management and organizational skills
