Robot Operator
Job Description
Robot Operator – Early-Stage AI Robotics Company
Cambridge, MA (On-site) | $40/hour | 12-Month Contract
Join a Robotics Company at Ground Zero
Our client, a fast-growing AI robotics company, is building something new — and they're looking for Robot Operators to join at an exciting early stage. This is a rare opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering, product, and research teams, where your feedback directly shapes the technology, not just how you use it.
We welcome candidates from all kinds of backgrounds — STEM, aviation, operations, manufacturing, maker communities, entrepreneurship, and military experience. If you're hands-on, detail-oriented, and excited about robotics, we want to hear from you.
Important: This role involves operating robots using a VR headset for extended periods.
Comfort wearing VR gear for long stretches — without motion sickness — is essential.
What You'll Do
- Operate physical and simulated robotic prototypes using VR headsets and controllers for extended sessions
- Collect data to improve the company's models by demonstrating tasks and evaluating autonomous behavior
- Run data collection missions both onsite and at offsite deployed locations
- Give clear, actionable feedback to engineering and development teams
- Represent the company professionally with customers, partners, and investors
- Perform preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on robotic systems
- Set up, tear down, and maintain testing equipment and environments
- Drive company vehicles to transport equipment between locations
- Contribute to projects that improve tools, workflows, and operations
What You Bring
- Comfort using a VR headset for extended periods, with strong spatial awareness for safely operating robotic systems
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Proficiency with Windows, macOS, Linux, and standard office tools
- Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to safely operate company vehicles
- U.S. citizenship required (due to business/legal requirements)
- Typing speed of at least 40 WPM
Preferred Experience
- Background in video gaming, virtual reality, or remote-operated platforms (drones, robotics, or similar) — bonus points if you can show it through competitions, streaming, or a public portfolio
- Familiarity with command-line interfaces, GitHub, or version-controlled environments
Why This Role
This is an early hire with real ownership and visibility. You'll help shape product direction, system capabilities, and operational workflows from the ground up — all while working at the cutting edge of AI and robotics.
Benefits:
- Pre-tax commuter benefits
- Employer subsidized Healthcare Benefits
- Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
- Employer covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
- 401k package
