Category Manager Purchasing Position - Great Hospital - Remote Position - $50.00 Hr.

Overall responsibilities include the management of expense spend category portfolio (med surg supplies, Information Systems,
Facilities, Operating Room, Pathology, Pharmacy, or etc.). Each category of spend is approximately (USD)100 Million in annual
spend. This includes the development of sourcing strategies in collaboration with stakeholders, market analysis, contract
development, supplier negotiations, vendor management, and selection of Texas Children's equipment, supplies, services, and
construction. With limited direction, this position requires effective team leadership of supplier negotiation strategies,
including the ability to develop Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Information (RFI), and review of any procurement
contracts. Overall obtaining the best products and services at the lowest cost to Texas Children's. A working knowledge of
the procurement laws, rules, regulations, and standardized principles, processes, and practices of professional procurement
are required. The job also requires management of vendor performance issues under the portfolio of spend to resolve service
level concerns from the customer or lack of vendor adherence to the contract
• Assists in contract negotiations, development of competitive procurement documents (RFPs/RFIs), Vendor management,
and implementation and administration of supplier contracts and agreements in the sourcing of goods and services for the
hospital’s entities including TCP Practices, Urgent Cares, Health Plan, Health Centers, NRI, TCH, TCH’s Pavilion for Women
and West & Woodlands Campus Hospitals.
• Establishes annual savings goal within category based on upcoming sourcing and savings initiatives, along with annual
vendor management plan. This also includes feedback from the category leadership team.

Skills:

• Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software, high level contract negotiations, departmental budgeting, MMIS
systems analysis techniques (including PeopleSoft, the then current GPO and GHX), spend analysis, strategic
sourcing/purchasing techniques, warehousing and inventory, and purchasing and distribution of healthcare
materials/services.
• Knowledge of and experience with Requests for Information, Requests for Proposal, vendor evaluation, vendor negotiation,
contracting and contract terms and conditions.
• Ability to read and interpret complex contractual agreements.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with vendors, Texas Children’s Hospital leadership, and end users, both verbally
and in writing. Also required is the ability to effectively utilize computer word processing and spreadsheets software.
• Must be able to organize information, generate reports and make recommendations on actions needed.
• Must be able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks.
• Must be able to meet timelines and be customer-service focused and detail oriented.
• Tactical planning skills, attention to detail, time management skills, organizational ability, and competent resolution
skills.
• Excellent written and verbal skills required.

Education:
