Systems Technician Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Systems Technician to provide comprehensive support within our office and at various client locations. This role is ideal for someone who excels in a versatile environment, combining technical prowess with a genuine desire to be of service to our clients and team. The Systems Technician takes ownership of outcomes, anticipates needs rather than waiting to be told, and brings a team-first mindset to every interaction. The Systems Technician serves as a trusted technical resource by understanding client environments, delivering solutions that align with business goals, and providing a professional service experience that reflects the company's values and commitment to service.

Primary Responsibilities

Deliver Professional Client Support and Service

  • Respond to service requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Communicate clearly with end users, client contacts, vendors, and internal teams regarding issue status, next steps, downtime impact, and expected timelines.
  • Provide friendly, service-oriented technical assistance in person, by phone, or remotely for server, system, and end-user-related work.
  • Build trust with client staff by demonstrating reliability, professionalism, and sound escalation judgment.

Deploy and Configure Systems and Equipment

  • Setup and install workstations; support client transfer of data and software.
  • Deploy, replace, and configure servers, hypervisors, virtual machines, storage, and related systems equipment according to company and client standards.
  • Apply approved system standards for Active Directory, Group Policy, patch management, backups, security, and management access where appropriate.
  • Setup, install, and troubleshoot network equipment (firewalls, switches, access points).
  • Validate domain join, authentication, application delivery, file and print services, backup jobs, and required business services after system changes.

Troubleshoot and Repair

  • Efficiently troubleshoot and resolve workstation hardware and software issues, ensuring minimal downtime for clients.
  • Use a structured troubleshooting process to diagnose server, system, and workstation issues logically instead of guessing.
  • Support users with OS issues, application issues, Active Directory and authentication issues, Group Policy issues, backup and restore issues, performance issues, and connectivity problems within standard scope.
  • Troubleshoot Windows Server operating systems, Office 365, and Google Workspace environments.

Plan and Review Client Environment

  • Review client systems environment, current server and host inventory, virtualization platforms, OS versions, Active Directory, cloud tenants, backups, and dependencies before beginning work.
  • Plan and coordinate system-related readiness needs when deployment depends on server availability, host resources, storage, identity, or cloud services.
  • Evaluate the broader impact of any change on client environments, favoring secure, stable, and manageable solutions over quick fixes.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, cloud providers, and client contacts to complete system work efficiently and with appropriate maintenance-window planning.

Maintain Standards and Documentation

  • Follow server, deployment, migration, configuration, security, and documentation standards for assigned work.

· Document all work performed, including configurations, changes, and client communications, promptly and clearly so the team can pick up where you left off.

  • Update asset inventory and documentation for servers, hosts, VMs, storage, Active Directory, Group Policy, backups, and related client records.
  • Escalate unfamiliar or complex issues through the defined process rather than improvising unapproved solutions; ask clarifying questions and seek guidance when needed.

Core Competencies

  • Servant Mindset
  • Humility
  • Ownership
  • Team-First Approach
  • Curiosity and Drive

Qualifications

  • Associate's or above in IT, Computer Science, or related field (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Systems Technician, with MSP background preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems (Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2012-2025, Azure, SharePoint).
  • Experience with network infrastructure components like firewalls, access points, and switches; SonicWall and Ubiquiti strongly preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+) are advantageous.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to client sites as needed.
  • Local candidates only, Visa transfer not available, and No third parties

Success in This Role Looks Like

A successful Systems Technician consistently delivers reliable technical support, builds meaningful trust with clients and colleagues, and helps organizations solve business challenges through stable, secure, and well-managed systems. They are proactive, organized, and driven by creating value for clients rather than simply closing tickets. They take ownership of outcomes, communicate effectively, document thoroughly so teammates can pick up where they left off, and contribute to the continual improvement of the team's service and the long-term success of the company.
