Make a meaningful impact every day as a full-time school counselor, working 37.5 hours per week at Salem Elementary near Woodford, VA. Key Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Successful completion of a state-approved Counselor Preparation Program.
  • Eligibility for appropriate licensure and/or endorsements as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct counseling and advising services for students’ academic, career, and social/emotional needs.
  • Assess student and program needs, planning and allocating resources for optimal outcomes.
  • Implement diverse assessment tools to set, monitor, and support meaningful student goals.
  • Offer evaluative feedback and maintain detailed student records.
  • Mediate student conflicts in partnership with administration, teachers, and other counselors.
  • Support transitions for students moving from middle school to high school.
  • Consult with parents, staff, and administrators regarding student concerns and progress.
  • Facilitate referrals to specialized services with administration and the school psychologist.
  • Engage collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to foster inclusivity and student success.
  • Adhere to professional, ethical, and confidentiality standards in all interactions.
  • Create an environment that encourages active, motivated learning and healthy social interaction.
  • Participate in curriculum development, faculty committees, and student activities.
  • Promptly report any incidents pertaining to child welfare to administrators.
  • Maintain necessary licensure and commit to ongoing professional growth.
