Job Description
The High Reach Forklift Operator receives, stores, picks, loads, and distributes building products inside and outside of a busy distribution center. This role operates propane or electric-powered industrial trucks, including reach trucks, order pickers, forklifts, and pallet jacks, to safely lift, stack, and move materials. You support daily warehouse operations by accurately handling inventory, fulfilling customer orders, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety, often working at significant heights using guided equipment.
Responsibilities
- Receive, unload, and move building product materials to and from receiving, storage, and production areas using reach trucks, forklifts, order pickers, pallet jacks, and other powered industrial equipment.
- Transport loaded pallets, skids, boxes, and other materials by positioning forks, lifting platforms, or other lifting devices under, over, or around products to ensure safe and efficient material flow.
- Organize products by sorting and placing items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequences such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
- Fulfill customer orders by promptly pulling products from stock, placing them on pallets, and transporting orders to packing stations, the shipping department, or directly to trucks.
- Track production activities by following customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, and requisitions to meet daily operational and performance goals.
- Maintain accurate records by verifying the quantity, accuracy, and quality of items received, stored, and loaded for delivery.
- Participate in annual physical inventory and regular product counts, ensuring items are correctly labeled or tagged and inventory data is accurate.
- Operate high reach equipment to handle materials at rack heights of approximately 40 feet, using cameras and laser-level guidance systems to safely retrieve and store products.
- Use order picker equipment that elevates the operator on a platform to access high storage locations while following all fall protection and safety procedures.
- Perform repetitive physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, reaching, lowering items to the ground, and performing side-to-side movements throughout the shift.
- Meet physical productivity expectations such as moving approximately 560 units daily, with an average weight of 30 pounds and frequent handling of materials each hour.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines, including proper use of fall protection devices, personal protective equipment, and safe operation of powered industrial trucks.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by following standard operating procedures and contributing to a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse environment.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in operating reach trucks and high reach forklifts for material handling at significant heights.
- Experience with order picking using order pickers and cherry pickers.
- Ability to safely operate propane and electric-powered industrial trucks, including forklifts and reach trucks.
- Material handling skills including picking, loading, unloading, and staging products.
- Comfort working at rack heights of approximately 40 feet using equipment with camera and laser-level guidance.
- Ability to lift and handle up to 50 pounds repeatedly and move an average of 30-pound units throughout the shift.
- Capacity to perform repetitive motions such as reaching, lowering items to the ground, and lateral movements safely.
- Commitment to following safety protocols, including compliance with fall protection device weight limitations.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in verifying product quantities, quality, and labeling.
- Willingness to participate in continuing training to learn and improve high reach equipment operation.
- Ability to follow predetermined product organization systems based on size, type, style, color, or product code.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining orderly racks, shelves, and bins.
- Comfort working with guided equipment such as cameras and laser-level systems for high reach operations.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manchester, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
